The Marriage of Ellie and Rama

The legend lives on from Denali on down

Of the pair known as Ellie and Rama

These two are a team, never gave up the dream

When the changes of youth made for drama

They met taking piano from Connie McFarlane

Even played some duets now and then

But Chavis was younger, not much, just a year

In middle school that was not cool

So there was just one date, til that moment of fate

On a plane coming home to Alaska

The two met again, right away felt like friends

This time he didn't seem younger

His interest was thoughts, not money, not things

For Ellie that seemed such a good fit

Before you know, these two had flown

To New Mexico, to learn meditation

A mother’s best love, gently guides, doesn’t shove

Kee flew down to check the place out

And what she said, when she reported to Ed

"No worries, mate, this place is legit"

Whether blessing or curse, it's the nature of youth

To ponder and ask the big questions

And wonder where in the scheme that you are

From this they were no exception

So Ellie flew down, to Seattle town

To brew coffee and be with her brother

But the answers were few, so try something new

Let’s drive up the Alcan in Rupert

If youth is a phase and life is a maze

Then these two were pretty much normal

They lived together, just a trial, not forever

Then broke up, then got back together

First it was Ellie, next time it was Rama,

The breakups they started a mounting

The best of all came when Rama broke off

And Ellie changed her status on Facebook

There it was for all the world to see

Rama thought what the hell have I done?

He then did his best to undo the big mess

Here we are to toast to his success

There are no guarantees, so Rama got on his knees

And asked her to join in marriage

And for good measure, to heighten the pleasure

He planned it with Mom and his in-laws

Ed said, "be romantic," Kee told him how

His mom gave a ring from Aunt Olive

On Valentine's Day, the last to find out

Was our Ellie Belle, and she sure was ready

The legend lives on from Denali on down

So now we are here, hearty, hale and good cheer

To witness and profess our pleasure

That these two saw it through and now start life anew

At the marriage of Ellie and Rama

I’ve mostly known him as Rama

Some say Chavis James Newman-Keene

To his mom he’s been known as Doodad 

I’ve heard Aunt Perusa say Chav

It’s all so confusing, and even amusing

I simply don’t know what to say

Something short and sweet  

Perhaps with a beat 

I think I’ll just call’m Piano Man

Some people go by their nicknames

Mimi, Dee, Bubbles, Socko and Kee

With given names, it’s just not the same

Most get one and have it for life

Young Chavis was a spiritual seeker

Found a swami who helped him to see

Now he’s Rama Ishaya Chavis James Newman-Keene

Sure sounds like a record to me

But weddings can add to one’s legal name
